dedicated to my father Kosta Lažetić May 24th 1937 – September 27th 2021
In the last year of his life, we talked a lot about his and my gardens. He loved nature and plants and was proud of the food he provided himself. So I took plants from both vegetable gardens and made an ink. I made 14 abstract paintings.
My dad died suddenly. Why? Was he scared of everything happening today, and he fell into a trap from which there was no way out? He always did that. He played with life. He was born in 1937, just before the war, and spent his childhood between the three biggest battles in the Balkans. And then he got sick. They said he was going to die. But he survived; since then, he has always loved checking his luck. To see as far as he can.
He liked to say: “The best thing is when you fuck yourself in a positive way.”
I got a great gift from him. Love for life and courage to live it, whatever it may be.
He wasn’t terrified.
He had had enough of life without the love of his life, my mother’s. And he went to her.
The project was done for a WOC artist-in-residence in 2021. LINK
